Do you have the “purr-fect” pic of your pussycat? A “dog-gone” great snapshot of your favorite canine?

Then your pet could be a winner.

The Butler County Humane Society is launching its 2nd Annual Pet Photo Contest, with winners to be featured in the group’s BCHS Pet Calendar for 2011.

“Our first calendar was a great success last year,” said calendar chair Annie Crenshaw.

“This project generated more than $4,000 for humane society projects such as spay-neuter efforts, pet adoption, the planned Second Chance (no kill) animal shelter, public awareness and animal care education and assisting the Greenville Animal Shelter with supplies and pet/shelter needs.”

In order to have the calendars ready in time for holiday gift-giving, all animal lovers are asked to start gathering those pet photos now for consideration in the 2011 calendar.

“We will have three winning pet photos featured on the cover of next year’s calendar, with the runners-up appearing in monthly collage photos,” Crenshaw said.

“Your pet could be a star. And your support will help animals in need right here at home.”

Entries are not limited to dogs and cats, either. Photos of pet birds, lizards, horses, hamsters and so on are also welcome.

The calendar will not only feature photos of Butler County pets and those of friends and neighbors, it will also spotlight adoption and rescued animal tales.

“If your pet is a shelter adoption or a stray you took into your heart and home, tell us your story and send us a photo,” Crenshaw said.

The deadline is July 31, 2010. Entry fees are $5 per submission (hard copy print, digital scan on disk or digital image). Participants are allowed to enter as many times as they wish.
