Dunbar Day Camp entertains all

Some are beating the heat by hitting the pool, and some are playing within the cool, air-conditioned confines of Dunbar Recreation Center.

But one thing can be said of all of them: there isn’t a child at Dunbar Day camp having a bad time.

Debra Canaty, who is leading the camp, said over a 100 campers have came out so far.

“Most of them love playing basketball and volleyball,” Canaty said. “And they love to go swimming.”

Campers make the trek to the Greenville YMCA every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to enjoy some water time, Canaty

“We also have had a lady from the extension office teaching 7 and 10-year-olds cooking lessons,” Canaty said.

When they aren’t in group-lead activities, children have the opportunity to play basketball, skip rope, and volleyball. Also, several were enjoying a game of parachute, in which campers hurried to run under the collapsing parachute before it hit the ground.

“Tomorrow, my group is going to the park to play ball and play on the swings,” Canaty said.

The camp also gives the children opportunity to make arts and crafts. Canaty said this week they are focusing on making something the campers could give to their father for Father’s Day.

The camp will continue to run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. until when it concludes, July 30.
