Four people were killed in a multi-vehicle accident on I-65 three miles south of Butler County Monday night, said Alabama State Troopers.

Killed were Jennifer Richardson, 53, of College Park, Ga.; her sister Lorraine Fleming, 63, of Sneadville, Ga.; her husband Ira Fleming, 69, of St. John, the Virgin Islands, and the Flemings’ grandson, Kelvin Pickering, 15, of Naples, Fla.

Trooper Kevin Cook said the initial investigation indicates Richardson was traveling north on I-65 in a 2010 Mazda 3 when her vehicle crossed the median and struck a southbound 2002 Chevrolet truck driven by Karon West, 37, of Slidell, La. This impact forced the truck into a southbound 2002 Toyota Highlander and driver Anna McGuire, 21, of Berkley Lake, Fla.

West and passenger Cynthia Jordan were transported to L.V Stabler Memorial Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. Three minor children also in the vehicle with West and Jordan were airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, treated, and are now in stable condition, said Cook.

McGuire and passenger Kalin Lasseter, 21, of Pace, Fla., were treated at the scene and released.

The crash happened at approximately 6:20 p.m., said Cook. Troopers were forced to re-route traffic from the interstate to U.S. Highway 31 via the exit in Georgiana because of the accident.
