Work on the county’s damaged roads continues to move along smoothly, county engineer Benjie Sanders reported to the county commission at Monday’s meeting.

After federal funds became available following the torrential rains earlier this year, Sanders and the county worked with FEMA to identify a list of damaged areas throughout the county.

Of those 129 sites, 27 are complete and 27 are currently in progress.

“We’re done with the grading, ditching and things like that on a lot of these projects that are ‘in progress’,” Sanders said. “We’re getting a little bit behind on placing rock on these roads, but we’re trying to stay within our means budget-wise as much as we can. That’s why we’ve got so many in progress right now.”
