Mark your calendars: an all-American tradition returns to Confederate Park this month. The Greenville Lions will kick off their annual Memorial Day Celebration at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 31, with live music provided by local talents.

The program will begin at 10:30 a.m., and is scheduled to include patriotic songs, recognition of the county’s fallen heroes with “Taps” performed on the bagpipe, and a speech (speaker yet to be determined).

“We also hope to have some military hardware involved in the event, along with displays of antique tractors and cars,” said Lion Hubert Little.

Following the program, a picnic lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. Tents with some seating will be supplied, but attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and hats or parasols to shield them from the sun.

Artwork from local school children that participated in the Lions Memorial Day Poster Contest will be on display that day and the winning essay in the Memorial Day Essay Contest will also be read during the program.
