Greenville citizens came to pray on Thursday. It was National Day of Prayer.

This year’s Bible verse was from Nahum 1:7: “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.”

The Seven Points of Prayer and respective prayer leader were: government, (Allen Winn); military (Bob Garrard); media (Danny Dean); business (Chad McGriff); education (Lane Simmons); church (Carolyn Griffin); and family (Stephen Smith). Mayor Dexter McLendon led the call to prayer, while Tommy Means offered a special prayer for the county and city’s elected officials. Tim Patton welcomed those attending.

Marc Gibbs played a pair of songs on his guitar: Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” and closed with “God Bless America.”

National Day of Prayer started in 1952 and has been observed annually in Greenville for over 10 years by the city’s ministerial association.
