Fort Dale softball ended their season on a high note, defeating Morgan Academy at home, 7-2.

The game only lasted five innings, due to the umpires showing up late, but that was plenty of time for the Eagles to score some runs and make the most of their final game.

“You always want to end the season with a big home win,” said Coach Scarlett Anderson. “We were real focused, hitting the ball well and being smart running bases.”

The Eagles one and only senior, Abby Martin, had a great final performance, Anderson said, grabbing 2 RBIs and an inside-the-park home run.

Anderson described one play in particular that stood out from the game. With a runner on third and first, the catcher decided to fake a throw to the mound.

“We had seen that trick in a game against us, and I guess our catcher decided she would try it,’ Anderson said.

When the catcher threw the ball to third, the runner froze, Anderson said. After a short run down, the runner was tagged out.

Anderson is already looking forward to next season and the possibility of having more experience on the team. Depending on how many players decided to return next year, the Eagles could have as many as 6 seniors.

“The younger ones are more experienced now and more prepared,’ Anderson said. “And if some of the older girls come back, we will end up having a lot more experience on this team.”
