Scaling new heights, having fun with friends, sitting a spell and listening to some good music: all were part of the 3rd Annual Salute-A-Soldier held at Hank Williams Park in the heart of Georgiana Saturday.

Attendees got free admission during the day, offering a chance to browse the booths featuring everything from hand-crafted jewelry to homemade treats straight from “Nana’s Oven.”

Little ones enjoyed bouncing and sliding inside Air Jumpz inflatables, while the brave donned harnesses and helmets to tackle the very tall climbing tower in hopes of hitting the buzzer at the top.

Erys Sanderson took on the challenge with a big smile. While he didn’t make it to the top, at age three, he definitely got an “A” for effort from the soldiers assisting the climbers.

He also earned himself a brand-new U.S. Army cap.

On stage were gospel group New Vision in the morning, while Night Moves took over and performed country and rock classics for appreciative listeners in the afternoon.

Salute-A-Soldier volunteers kept busy serving chicken strip plates with the fixins’ to hungry guests, including a batch of ten for the evening’s entertainment, American Idol finalist Josh Gracin and his crew.

Monies earned from the annual event go to the Family Readiness Group of the 781st Transportation Squadron of the National Guard to assist family members while their loved ones are serving their country overseas.
