Take a walk, Greenville. Anywhere in Alabama.

ADECA has released a new full-color guide (the Alabama Passport to Fitness) to 85 walking trails in cities, towns and parks throughout the state. Each municipality has a two-page spread, complete with information about its respective trail and a map tracing its route. You can take a jaunt through a park (brave the Alligators at Daphne’s aptly named Alligator Alley) or take in the downtown history of any number of cities, including Auburn, Brewton, Decatur, Grove Hill, and Selma.

And Greenville.

The bulk of Greenville’s walking tour takes place on historic Commerce St. and the downtown area, but includes side jaunts along Cedar St., Olive St. and a trip to Pioneer Cemetery. Historical features of interest are noted in the guide for the benefit of all walkers.

Another interesting feature included in the guide are Passport Stamps. After a completing a walking tour at one of the 85 trails, walkers can call a number to find out where to pick up their stamps in the area.

For Greenville (and for most of the walking trails) that would be the area Chamber of Commerce. Francine Wasden, director of the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce, has Passport Stamps for the city’s walking trail ready and available. As well as the ADECA guide books.

For more information call the Chamber at 382-3251. Or visit www.adeca.alabama.gov for an interactive Passport to Fitness webpage.
