pA feast of festive tables and fine food awaited the guests at Safe Harbor’s first Tablescapes Luncheon on Saturday at the Wendell Mitchell Conference Center on the LBWCC Greenville campus.

Decorated with everything from miniature cityscapes to spring florals and beach balls, the judges (sponsors, members of the media and entertainment) had a tough task in voting for their top picks out of the 16 themed tables.

Once the votes were tabulated, June Earnest, with her rooster-themed “Roosting in a Safe Place,” took first place honors; Tammy Gaston’s “Big Apple” homage to “Sex and The City,” second place, and third place honors went to Carolyn Spencer and her “Butterflies and Blooms” tablescape.

Other hostesses and their table themes were: Betty and Lisa Thomas, “Lunch at Tiffany’s,” Virginia Perdue, “Love Lights the Way Home,” Jennifer Hartley, “Girls’ Day Out,” Joann Mathews, “Blue Willow,” April Farrar, “Summer Orchard,” Mary Dearing, “A Walk in the Woods,” Margaret Poole, “Spring is in the Air,” Jennifer Meadows, “Easter Blessing,” Jenny Keen and Marilyn Coker, “The Garden Spot,” Jackie Thompson and Melissa Norrell, “Child Abuse is No Picnic,” Karen Jones, “Fun in the Sun,” Tami Revette, “Into the Wild” and Margaret Pierce, “America the Beautiful.” Deborah Crews and Frances Seale served as hostesses for the Sponsor Table.

Bobby Johnson provided musical entertainment for the occasion, with Emily’s Café and Gourmet Coffees of Greenville catering the meal.

“This is our first event of this type, but we certainly hope it won’t be our last,” said Safe Harbor director, Kathy Smyth.

Area businesses supplied the organization with a bevy of door prizes given away to guests.

“We thought everything went really well. The tables were just beautiful, the food was delicious, the hostesses did a great job taking care of everyone, and our guests seemed to have a wonderful time,” event chair Sara Jean Atkins said.

All proceeds from the event will go to aid children and youth who have been victims of domestic abuse, or who have witnessed violent crimes.
