Fort Dale softball vowed to use the rest of their season to have fun and work on improving.

In Thursday’s double-header versus Sparta, the girls did both.

FDA walked away with two wins, 12-1 and 13-2.

Eagle coach Scarlett Anderson said Sparta were at a huge disadvantage the first game. When their starting pitcher did not show up, Sparta had to use a girl who had never been on the mound before.

“You have to give her credit,” Anderson said. “She did pretty good considering she had never pitched before.”

Anderson said their base running was better than it had ever been during this match.

Sparta’s starting pitcher showed up for the second match, but this didn’t stop the Eagle offense.

“Everyone got a chance to hit twice in the second inning,’ Anderson said.

FDA scored 10 runs in the second.

Anderson said now that the pressure was off, the girls weren’t obsessing over every mistake they made.

“They actually had fun,” Anderson said. “We are just trying to play good softball cause it is so close to the end of the season.”

Taylor Merry and Hannah Johnson were able to get some experience on the mound during the games. Merry closed out the first game, which ended after striking out three in the fourth. Johnson relieved Wilson during the second.

Fort Dale has 4 dates left on their schedule before the season wraps up. The Eagles will recognize their one senior, Abby Martin, on April 20th.

The Eagles face Lowndes for a double-header next Tuesday.
