Despite yesterday’s tough loss to Pike, Fort Dale is still in good position as far as the playoffs are concerned.

The Eagles came into the game after a big 7-2 win over Lee-Scott last Thursday.

Coach Josh Beverley said winning the Lee-Scott game really increased their chances of making it to the post-season.

“Since we swept Macon-East, we just need to beat Lee-Scott again to hold all the tiebreakers,” Beverley said. “A lot of crazy stuff would have to happen for us not to go to the playoffs.”

Brandon Matthews and Hunter Armstrong both went 2 for 3 against Lee-Scott. Todd Burkett hit 2 for 4, slamming a double and a triple to earn two RBIs.

Burkett pitched all 7 innings, striking out 8 and giving up 5 hits and 2 runs.

Beverley called Wednesday’s game against Pike “the worst overall game” of the season

Pike won 17-7.

“We didn’t play very good defense,” Beverley said. “Hopefully this got a bad game out of our system before the playoffs.”

Pike hit the ball better than any other team so far, Beverley said. Pike’s top 8 hitters are all batting over .400 for the season.

“When you play a team that hits the ball well, you can’t help them out and give them an extra out,” Beverley said. “They will make you pay.”

Skylar McKeown and Todd Burkett hit 2 for 3, with 4 and 2 RBIs respectively.

Beverley said he thought the loss might inspire his team to do better.

“It may turn into a good thing, because I think we’ll be ready to play today no matter what,” Beverley said.
