James Aubrey Gaston, 89, of Pensacola, Fla., passed away Sunday, April 4, 2010, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7 from the Chapel of Harrison Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Gaston officiating. Interment will follow in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery with Harrison Funeral Home directing. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Gaston was born Dec. 5, 1920 in Butler County. He moved to Pensacola in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army Corps during World War II and retired in 1977 after 35 years as a civil service employee at the Pensacola Naval Air Station. He was a deacon in the Southern Baptist Church and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Pensacola.
Mr. Gaston was a loving father and devoted husband.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Geraldine “Gerrie” Gaston of Pensacola, Fla.; daughter, Mrs. Joan (Eddie) Simmons of Gonzalez, Fla.; sons, Joel (Diane) Gaston of Pensacola, Fla., Kerry (Kathy) Gaston of Montgomery; sister, Glennie Ruth Scurlock of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren, Bethany (Michael) Shelton of Jacksonville, Fla., Brian (Angela) Simmons of Pensacola, Fla., Melanie Gaston of Montgomery, Meredith Gaston of Montgomery, and Kari (Clint) Hill of Ft. Campbell, Ky.; six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Thomas Sunnenberg and staff of Sacred Heart Hospital, also caregiver, Miss Minnie Bradley and a cousin, Sharon Roberts.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Covenant Hospice or Hillcrest Baptist Church, both of Pensacola, Fla.
