With regular -eason play drawing to a close, the Greenville High Tigers got another chance to sharpen their claws before playoffs.

The double-header added two more wins to the Tiger record, as they defeated Andalusia 5-4 and 7-4.

Coach Brad Horn felt his team could have done more to earn the win.

“We lucked through that one,” Horn said.

Going into the seventh inning, GHS was down 4-1. Ryan Smith hit a single, but Nathan Branum, Hunter Harrell and Raymond Moody reached on an error. Stewart Moody and Josh Ray walked, followed by Nick Davis walking the winning run in.

Ryan Smith was 3 for 4, and Hunter Harrell batted 1 for 4. Stewart Moody and Jeremy McGinty both went 1 for 3.

“We had 6 hits and three of them came from one guy,” Horn said. . “We should have hit off that pitcher better. He put the ball across the plate, we just weren’t hitting it.”

Josh Ray was awarded the win on the mound. He pitched the entire game, striking out 3 and giving up 5 hits and only 1 earned run.

The second match hinged less on luck and more on the bats of the Tigers. GHS scored 4 runs in the first inning alone.

“We came out just how we ended the last ballgame, scoring 4 runs in a row,” Horn said.

The Tigers picked up 2 more in the third thanks to a two-run homer by Raymond Moody, followed by another run in the sixth inning.

“We still could have done a little better than we did,” Horn said.

Ozelle Carter, a ninth grader for GHS, pitched for all 7 innings. He gave up 10 hits, struck out 4 and gave up 4 runs.

At the plate, Raymond Moody had a flawless day, going 3 for 3, with 3 RBIs, a double and home run. Ryan Smith went 1 for 2 and Stewart Moody went 2 for 3.

Saturday will be the last home game before playoffs for four GHS seniors. Stewart Moody, Josh Ray, Hunter Harrell and Ryan Smith will be recognized during the game, designated as Senior Day.

Horn said the playoffs are going to be about perfection.

“We have to make every play,” Horn said. “We can’t kick it around and make errors. And when we get runners on, we have to be able to hit them home.”

Josh Ray was the man to beat at the plate Monday during the second game, but he didn’t earn a single hit the first game. GHS ‘s playoffs hopes hinge upon which version of the team comes to play.

“If we have our good team there, when we don’t make errors and when we make good contact, we will do well,” Ray said. “Let’s hope that team shows up.”
