Greenville High softball started strong during Tuesday’s game versus Andalusia.

“We played five scoreless innings of softball,” said Coach Donna Sunnycalb. “It was probably the best my team has played the entire season.”

The Tigers kept the game scoreless until the sixth inning.

“They had a runner on first and we tried to pick her off,” Sunnycalb said. “We made a bad throw that went past the first baseman and right between the right fielders legs.”

Andalusia capitalized on the error, scoring their first run. Andalusia would go on to win the match 4-0.

“I am more satisfied with the way we played defensively, but I still didn’t get a full seven innings out of them.”

Andalusia scored three more in the seventh to seal the deal, but Sunnycalb said her pitcher still had one of her best games of the season.

“Cortnee Myers did everything she could to try to get us the win,” Sunnycalb said. “She not only pitched well, but she played her position well.”

Overall, Sunnycalb said it was a good match.

“They worked together and did everything they are supposed to do, and I am proud of them for that,” Sunnycalb said. “At the same time, we only had one hit.”

Daphne Moore picked up the only hit, batting 1-for-3.

“I want us to get over the hump,” Sunnycalb said. ” If I can make them realize how close they are to being good, then we are going to start seeing success.”

The Tigers will travel to play in the Andalusia Tournament April 2 and 3.
