Martin Saunders

Martin Oliver Saunders, 79, of Pensacola died Saturday, March 27, 2010 as a patient in the Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Residence.
Mr. Saunders was a native of Greenville and the Pigeon Creek Community, but resided in Pensacola since 1958. He served during the Korean Conflict and retired from the US Navy Reserve, New Orleans with 29-and-a-half years of service. He also retired from the Naval Air Rework Facility in Pensacola with 34 years of service. He was a member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church.
Mr. Saunders was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Eva Saunders of Alabama and other relatives, also his walking buddies, Dixie, Daisy and Tom.
Survivors include his wife, Alice of Pensacola; 2 sons, Terry and Kenneth (Janet) of Pensacola; two daughters, Sharon Webb (Gary) of O’Brien, FL and Diane Hodges (Bill) of Pigeon Creek, AL; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren and his loving pet companions Maggie, Lucy, Tucker and Mattie; and other relatives.
Funeral service with military honors will be at 11 am Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Lentine and Dr. Al Butler presiding. The family will have friends for visitation 1 hour prior to services. Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery in Brantley with Rev. Burney Enzor presiding over graveside services. The family will receive friends 1 – 2 pm prior to graveside services at Pleasant Home Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Martin’s memory to the Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Residence or Myrtle Grove Baptist Church.
