A feast for the eyes, ears and taste buds is set for April 10 in the Camellia City. Safe Harbor’s first Tablescapes Luncheon begins at noon that Saturday at the Wendell Mitchell Conference Center on the LBWCC-Greenville campus.

The event will feature 16 beautifully decorated tables with centerpieces and table settings, says Sara Jean Atkins, chair of the luncheon. Each table of six will have its own hostess, who will serve the guests a lunch provided by Emily’s.

“Each table’s theme will be different, ranging from the simple to the ornate,” Atkins said.

“The decorations are made from a variety of objects. Some you would find in any kitchen, while others are quite unusual.” A group of volunteers from across the community will fashion the tablescapes, Atkins said.

The tables will be judged prior to the luncheon, and a winner, along with second and third place runners-up, will be chosen.

Some of Emily’s most popular menu items will be featured at the luncheon, says food chair, Betty Thomas.

“We will offer their delicious poppy seed chicken, sautéed green beans, congealed strawberry salad on lettuce, roll, brownie delight and tea,” Thomas said. Live entertainment featuring top local talents will also be provided during the luncheon, Atkins said.

One lucky winner at each table will receive a door prize, with many other prizes to be given away. Guests will also be able to purchase the traditional Blue Ribbon for $10 to display on a front door or mailbox in recognition of “Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month” in April.

“We are so excited about our very first event of this type. We know this is a busy time of year with social events, Relay fundraisers, Calico Fort and other activities, but we encourage those who don’t already have plans to come and join us,” Atkins said.

“You will truly be impressed by the display of talent and creativity shown by the ladies of our community and, of course, enjoy a wonderful meal from Emily’s.”

Tickets are $20 and a limited number are still available. All proceeds will benefit the children and youth served by Safe Harbor (The Children’s Advocacy Center).

“Special thanks go to all the sponsors who have donated to this event,” said Safe Harbor director, Kathy Smyth.

“This is our first Tablescapes Luncheon, but we plan to have many more in the years to come. We appreciate everyone’s support and their help in making the difference in the life of a child.”
