FDA baseball kept busy last weekend, winning two of their four scheduled games.

The Eagles faced off Friday morning at 8 a.m. vs. Tuscaloosa Academy.

Coach Josh Beverly said that his pitching squad did not have a good day. Hunter Armstrong picked up the loss for the day.

Beverly said it was an okay performance hitting wise. Brandon Matthews went 2 for 4 and Skylar McKeown went 2 for 3.

In the next match up, FDA played Macon-East in a region game and beat them for the first time ever.

Todd Burkett helped lead them from the mound to a 7-6 victory.

“Burkett didn’t have his best stuff, but he hung in there and gave us a chance to win,” Beverly said.

Skylar McKeown closed the door on Macon-East, coming in the sixth inning to strike out 5 of the 6 batters he faced.

Brandon Matthews batted 3 for 4, and Conally Walters 2 for 4. Dustin Till banged out a 3-run double in the fifth.

The region win brings FDA’s region record to 3-2, Beverly said.

The Fort Dale Eagles played in single elimination play starting Saturday morning.

They survived their first match, winning 10-6 against Crenshaw. Conally Walters hit 3 for 4, with a 2-run home run. Skylar McKeown grabbed a solo home run of his own. Matthew Burkett hit 3 for 3.

Jonathon Scott was on the mound and picked up the win.

Beverly said his team then had to wait around until 5:30 p.m. to play again. By the time the game started, Beverly said his boys were tired.

“We we’re out of gas,” Beverly said. “We didn’t play that bad, but we only had like 6 hits.”

Todd Burkett and Steven Till batted 1 for 3.

Beverly said his team finished third in the tournament. Brandon Matthews and Todd Burkett were awarded all-tournament trophies for their weekend performance.

FDA boys will not be able to stay dormant all spring break. They are scheduled to play Thursday at Edgewood and a double-header versus Eastwood on Friday.

Beverly said last year, his team took spring break off only to lose momentum.

“We’re playing through the break this year,” Beverly said.
