The Board of Education unanimously rejected Dr. Charles Farmer’s resignation as principal of Greenville High School, which means what?

If the intent was to try and keep Farmer in the school district then the board’s action means little, if anything.

Farmer said his decision to resign remains unchanged. He said he and his wife, Rachel, are looking forward to the move to Tennessee, where he has family.

“I have made a commitment to Williamson County Schools,” he said. “It would be unfair for me to go back on that commitment. I do want to reiterate that the Greenville community, especially the Greenville High School family, has been extremely supportive of my family during this time. I certainly will continue to work diligently for Greenville High School, the Butler County Schools, and the City of Greenville until I leave later this summer.”

Farmer said he appreciated the support of Interim Superintendent Joseph Dean and the Board of Education and said a “variety of factors” led to his resignation, none which he would discuss.

“This district and this board has all the intentions of trying to keep and retain our most effective and qualified leaders,” said Dean. “But whatever Dr. Farmer decides to do in the long run, I’m one of his biggest supporters.”

Farmer submitted his resignation to Dean earlier this week and has been hired by former superintendent Mike Looney to be principal at a high school still under construction. Looney left Butler County in December to become Director of Schools at the Williamson County School District.

Farmer’s resignation is effective June 30.
