Economic development leaders from around the county met Tuesday morning at It Don’t Matter restaurant for the regular Crenshaw County Forward Breakfast.

The event is held at different places in the county, and First Lowndes Bank presented this week’s program.

One of the key speakers was Senator Wendell Mitchell, who gave an update about the legislative session and talked about other issues facing the state, including gambling.

“I’m not sure if there’s anything you or I can do to stop gambling in this state, but we need to make sure we regulate it,” he said.

Mitchell also advocated tying gambling revenue to education funding.

He also talked about his ongoing campaign to get Highway 331 four-laned, which has been going on since George Wallace was the governor.

“I’m on them every year about that,” he said.

Probate Judge Jim Perdue gave the news that residents will soon be able to buy car tags and pay property taxes online or with a credit card in the probate office.

County Commission chairman Ronnie Hudson brought the crowd up to speed about the rough condition of many roads in the county and the ongoing repair processes.

Those in attendance also heard from Superintendent Kathi Wallace, representatives from Dongwan, Smart and other local businesses.
