Hamidullah Muneer El-Amin (born James Earl Whittle), a former resident of Greenville. passed away February 3, 2010. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010 from Bethlehem Baptist Church , Rev. Michael Foster, officiating. Burial in Bedgood Cemetery with Hudson Funeral Services of Greenville directing.
Mr. El-Amin was born March 25, 1944 to Azell and Lessie (McClain) Whittle in Greenville in Butler County. At an early age, he accepted Christ under the spiritual guidance of his parents and the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church family. On April 10, 1967, he married Gwendolyn Y. Parmer and to this union, three children were born, Monica, Terrance and Jamie. On February 26, 1971, he accepted the teachings of Islam and joined the Nation of Islam. In 1975, he embraced Al-Islam (Orthodox Islam) and for the next 39 years of his life, he was faithful and dedicated to the propagation of Islam and the cause to serve all the needs of humanity.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Ezekiel Whittle Sr.
Mr. El-Amin leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 43 years, Gwendolyn Parmer Whittle; one daughter, Monica (Erwin); two sons, Terrance (Erica) and Jamie (Katilya); eight grandchildren, Xahvier, Jamila, Bilalian, Shari’ah, Deziree, Myahn, Kari and Jamia; one great-grandchild, Zahariah. He also leaves to cherish his memory, four beloved siblings, Annie Wells (Junius) Nemiah, Allin (Betty) and Johnny; six beloved sisters-in-law, Edna Ruth Whittle, Bernadin Parmer, Wynona Allison, Hazel Parmer, Janice Bullard, Mentoria Jennings (Lonnie); one special aunt and uncle, Hervine and Era Bedgood; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
