Recent rains and paperwork continue to be troubles tackled by the Crenshaw County Commission.

After Monday morning’s meeting, the Commission drafted a letter to the citizens of the county, many of whom are concerned about the state of local roads.

Here is what the letter says:

“The Crenshaw County Commission wishes to take this opportunity to address the concerns of so many citizens who live on our secondary road systems.

“We know of no other time in our record-keeping history that Crenshaw County has ever seen rainfall total 20 inches in December and January.

“We know citizens living on these dirt roads are frustrated by what seems like, at time, little to no progress.

“No one is more frustrated than your County Commission. We are currently working with FEMA personnel on eighty identified sites that qualify for assistance, and while that assistance seems promising for current repairs, it’s still not as important as the road you live on not being repaired now.

“We are asking that the citizens please continue to bear with us as we work along with FEMA, helping us return our secondary roads to the condition you expect.

“The county is in the process of implementing a long-term plan of secondary road maintenance, and we ask for your patience and prayers in the coming weeks as we work together to improve Crenshaw County.”

The commission also released a list of roads closed as of Feb. 8.
