Want the chance to meet Republican gubernatorial and congressional candidates in your hometown and hear what their stance is on the issues?

The opportunity is coming to the Camellia City on Thursday, February 11. The Butler County Republican Party is hosting a political forum beginning at 6 p.m. at the Lurleen B. Wallace Community College Conference Center.

“We want to get the word out and have a good attendance at this event. People need to be informed before they go to the polls on June 1,” said Cleve Poole, chairman for the BCRP.

Among the gubernatorial candidates running on the Republican ticket planning to attend are Tim James, Bradley Byrne, Kay Ivey, Robert Bentley and Bill Johnson.

Due to a previous commitment, former Chief Justice Roy Moore will not be attending, Poole said.

Judge Tommy Bryan, a Brantley native, who is running for re-election to the Court of Civic Appeals, will also attend.

Second Congressional District hopefuls Martha Roby, a Montgomery City Councilmember and Rick Barber, a small business owner, will also participate in the event, along with Hank Erwin, running for lieutenant governor and Luther Strange, a candidate for attorney general.

The even will be divided into two segments, beginning with an hour-long forum moderated by Poole, in which each candidate will be asked to express their views on how to fix what is wrong with the state. The question will be provided in advance to allow them to well prepared to respond.

The second hour will be a meet and greet, giving all those in attendance a chance to talk with the candidates.

“It’s an unusual thing to have such an event in a more rural county like ours, so I hope people will take advantage of the opportunity while it is here,” Poole said.
