Two signing ceremonies were held last week at Luverne High School for senior baseball players Corey Hale and Monterio May.  The high school seniors have made their college decisions final and they are committed to playing baseball at the next level.

“They’re both very deserving,” Luverne baseball coach Andre Parks said. “Corey and Monterio have been the foundation of our pitching staff since the ninth grade. They’ve been at the top of our rotation, kind of a No. 1 and a No. 1 B. We’re looking for good things from them again this year.”

May and Hale helped Luverne reach the Class 3A semifinals last season.

Corey Hale signed his letter of intent with Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama. 

Corey, a left handed pitcher 6-5, 240-pound as a junior, was 8-3 with a 2.50 ERA last season.  The Jefferson State Pioneers are looking forward to him joining their team.

Monterio May signed his letter of intent with Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. 

Monterio, also a left-handed pitcher, was an All-State selection as a junior.  He posted an 11-2 record (including 10 straight wins) and 117 strikeouts.

At the plate, May batted .552 with 35 RBIs. 

The Shelton State Buccaneers are impressed with his performance and are looking forward to him becoming a part of their team.  Shelton State Community College competes in the Alabama Community College Conference. 

Last year the team earned its third consecutive Junior College World Series trip in as many years.
