February has been named Career and Technical Education month for Crenshaw County Schools, and a number of students started the month by taking part in job shadowing around the county.

“We had 63 students do job shadowing over two days,” said Becky Odom, the health science teacher at Luverne High School and Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) sponsor.

The students visited a number of different healthcare offices, including Crenshaw Community Hospital, Lake Haven Assisted Living Facility, Crenshaw Animal Clinic, Luverne Rescue Squad, Dr. Lamb, Dr. Walker, Dr. Billings, Dr. Tompkins, Luverne Health and Rehab, Hometown Medical, and Mainstreet Medical.

“We are very fortunate to have them take us in and take time to share their knowledge with these kids,” Odom said. “We had students in every part of the hospital and around town, and we just want to thank everyone for all they’ve done.”

Other Career and Technical Programs around the county have other special events planned for the month of February, including guest speakers, competitions, cookouts and more.

The LHS HOSA group will also be holding a blood drive on Feb. 24 in the LHS auditorium from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
