The Luverne High School Class of 1947,“ Lunch Bunch”, got off to a great start for their 2010 luncheons. Ten members met January 14th at Meadowcrest Community room bringing their own “Brown Bag” lunch.

Recent pictures by Margaret Nichols of Voncile Nichols’s 81st birthday reception were shown.

Margaret Nichols also shared a photo album of her great-grandchildren that she got as a gift for Christmas.

The book was beautifully made by the children’s mother who is a professional photographer.

The members also enjoyed hearing from Mattie Pearl Sport, Louise Morgan and Margaret Nichols who went on the recent tour to Nashville and The Biltmore Mansion.

Edna Norsworthy gave the blessing on the meal which included a fresh, hot pound cake made by Mattie Lula Jeffcoat and a tray of homemade goodies baked by Margaret Nichols.

Other members attending were Margaret Petrey, Florence Jeffcoat, Alice Curtis, Kathryn Evans and Mary Susan Borom.

The “Lunch Bunch” will continue to meet every second Thursday of the month. The February meeting will be “ Brown Bag” at Meadowcrest on February 11th.

The Alabama Crenshaw Baptist Association WMU Quarterly meeting was held at Joquin Baptist Church on Monday January 18, 2010.

Pastor Mike Thomas gave the welcome and blessing on the meal that was served at 6 p.m.

The bountiful and delicious meal was hosted by Joquin, South Luverne and Chapel Hill. After the meal Linnie Wright , WMU, director gave the announcements and conducted a short business session.

Elaine Bozeman gave devotion and prayer patterns and offertory prayer. Special music was rendered by the Joquin Choir.

Ms. Wright introduced Rev. Pat and Peggy Ozment as guest speakers. The Ozments

are missionaries who served for three years in Ghana Africa with the International Mission Board.

They served with a special program for senior citizens who answer the call to serve as missionaries.

They were 63 years of age when they went to Africa. Rev. Ozement made this profound statement, “If you are not a Missionary, you need one.”

Their video and slide presentation was great and informative.

They also had a large display of carvings, rugs and other items obtained while they served in Africa.

Rev. Pat and Peggy now reside in their home at Lake Martin. Rev. Pat is also searching for a church whereever the Lords leads.

He has served as pastor prior to serving as a missionary.

First Baptist Church and Danielsville Baptist tied for the attendance banner.

Mrs. Jewel Killough presented Ms. Doris Rogers with a gift of appreciation for the years of dedicated service as WMU Director.

The Brantley Rural Club met in the home of Susie Carnes on Thursday January 21st at 1:30 p.m. with nine members present.

La Rue Kelsoe called the meeting to order and conducted a business session. La Rue was elected club president for 2010.

All members were in agreement that she had served the Club well and was needed to keep the club going with hand quilting as the Clubs main fundraiser.

Delores Mount agreed to continue as the treasurer and gave an up date financial report.

All members are now selling “Happy Home” flavoring in Lemon, white and dark Vanilla, Butternut and Red food coloring in 7 oz bottles for $3 each.

LaRue reminded members it was time for 2010 dues.

After the business meeting Delores gave the devotion and led everyone in reciting the Lord’s Prayer.

Susie Carnes, with Mary Sasser as co-hostess, served delicious refreshments during the fellowship time.
