Democrats announce election qualifying fees and dates

The following resolution was adopted by the Crenshaw County Democratic Executive Committee on Jan. 21 concerning qualification dates and costs for elections.

In accordance with the Call to the Primary 2010 Resolution passed by the State Democratic Executive Committee, and under the authority and subject to the terms and provisions of the primary election laws of Alabama, a Democratic Primary will be held in Crenshaw County on Tuesday, June 1, and if necessary, as provided by law, a second Democratic Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2010.

That such Primary Election shall be the Primary Election of the Crenshaw County Democratic Party, and shall be held and conducted in all respects in accordance with the primary election laws of Alabama.

That in said Primary Election, the persons eligible to vote therein, the persons eligible to be candidates therein, the forms of the declaration of candidacy, the qualification fees charged, which shall be two percent of one year’s salary or the waiver thereof, the withdrawal of candidates and all other matters, conditions and things pertaining to the conduct of said Primary Election for county offices shall be governed by the Rules of the State Democratic Executive Committee, as amended, except that the time for qualification shall extend from 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 25 to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 2, as now provided by law.

That declarations of candidacy may be obtained at the offices of John A. Nichols, Chairman, Crenshaw County Executive Committee, at Lightfoot and Nichols, 84 E. Fourth Street, Luverne, Ala., and the following qualification fees are hereby set:

Board of Education Place 2 — $100

Board of Education Place 4 — $100

Coroner — $100

Sheriff — $1,200

County Commission (all five seats) — $400

Superintendent of Education — $2,000
