The Greenville City Council approved a $300,000 contract with APAC-Southeast for for the resurfacing of several roads around the city in 2010.

Roads that will be repaved include:

– Manningham Road (from Fort Dale Rd. to I-65 bridge).

– Country Club Dr. (from N. Perry St. to Glendale Rd.).

– Woodland Dr. (entire street).

– Woodland Ct. (entire street).

– Overlook Rd. (from Northgate Rd. to Stewart St.).

– Stewart St (entire street).

– Cedar St. (from Fort Dale Rd. to N. Conecuh St.).

Mayor Dexter McLendon said the city would assist APAC-Southeast with the scheduling of work on roads like Overlook and Stewart. Because of heavy traffic when school is in session, McLendon said the city wants work to be done during the summer on those roads.

Stewart St. serves as an outlet from W.O. Parmer and Greenville Elementary, while Overlook Rd. runs directly beside Greenville Middle School.

Manningham Rd., its surface cracked with potholes, is heavily trafficked because of the quick access to the Wal-Mart SuperCenter.

In other business, the council:

– Authorized an amendment to the 2009-10 Fiscal Year budget in order to allocate $2,000 to the Butler County Department of Human Resources.

– Approved a resolution authorizing the city to serve as administrative sponsor for the 2010 Summery Food Service Program for children.

– Extended a tax abatement originally granted on Nov. 13, 2007 for construction related taxes at Hwashin America Corp. The abatement was extended through Feb. 1, 2010.

In a letter sent to the city, Josh Simmons, human resources manager for Hwashin, stated that scheduled expansion had been delayed, but should begin in March or April. The total added investment by Hwashin is an estimated $9.8 million, according to forms submitted by Hwashin to the city.

The form noted that the expansion will add 52 jobs after the first year, 65 jobs after the second, and 78 jobs in its third year.

– Approved the following expenditures: $120,767 to the Municipal Workers Compensation Fund, Inc.; $66,893.50 to Pinnacle Networx, LLC. for the purchase of computers, accessories, software, etc. for 21 mobile data terminals for the police department.

The money will be reimbursed through the 2008 COPS technology grant.
