The Alabama Department of Examiners of Public Accounts released a pair of audits relating to Crenshaw County last Friday, and in both cases, the county came away clean.

One audit examined the Crenshaw County Commission from Oct. 1, 2007 through Sept. 30, 2008 and the state found no instances of non-compliance or other matters of concern.

“I’m extremely pleased that this was a clean audit,” said Crenshaw County Commission Adminstrator David Smyth. “It’s been years since we’ve had a discrepancy, so we were kind of expecting this outcome”

“Our office works extremely hard to make sure every month is as accurate as possible to that things are right by the year’s end,” he continued. “We take pride in the fact that it’s been a number of years since we’ve had a problem, and we strive for that every time.”

The second audit was of the Law Library Fund from Oct. 1, 2007 through June 30, 2009.

The law library fund receives library fees collected in the Circuit and District Courts of Crenshaw County and in the municipalities of Luverne and Brantley.

Those funds are used to maintain and provide legal materials needed by the County, court officials and citizens.

That audit also found no instances of non-compliance.
