Farm Center event brings crowd from around south Alabama

The Beef Cattle Grooming Clinic was held on Saturday, January 9th at the Tom Harbin Farm Center in Luverne.

Over 40 youth, parents and Extension Agents from Geneva, Crenshaw, Dale, Pike, Montgomery and Sumpter counties interested in showing cattle attended.

Mr. Reed Blossom Director of Industry Relations & Youth Programs for the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association conducted a hands on grooming clinic in which the youth and parents that participated applied what they learned to their own cattle that they brought to the clinic.

Topics covered by Mr. Blossom were overview of equipment used for fitting and showing cattle, daily care, clipping basics and other techniques used to make cattle look better to the judge in the show ring.

After all the cattle were groomed a showmanship clinic was conducted by Mr. Shawn Johnson Representative of Southern Cattle Company out of Florida.

A delicious lunch and supper was provided by Mr. Mike Henry of Pintlala Cattle Company.

In spite of the cold weather everyone had a good time, learned a lot and was able to stay warm due to the inside arena.
