A 38-year-old Fort Mitchell man has been arrested and charged with raping a woman in Butler County on Monday night.

Benny Lee Betts was arrested in Phenix City and picked-up by Butler County sheriff’s deputies on Wednesday at the Russell County Jail, according to Sheriff Kenny Harden.

Harden said investigators received an emergency call around midnight on Tuesday and responded to the call in the Pettibone community southwest of Greenville. Warrants were issued for Betts’ arrest soon after, said Harden.

Harden said Betts was sentenced to 10 years for receiving stolen property in 2001, but had been released from prison on parole at an unspecified period of time. Betts then had his parole revoked in May 2009 after being charged three times for DUI, said Harden.

He was released Dec. 14, 2009 and placed on probation.

He is currently incarcerated in the county’s correctional facility on $30,000 bond, said Harden.
