Some children and families in Butler County will have warm coats this winter courtesy of the Rotary Club of Greenville. The Rotary Club partnered with Wal-Mart for the Coats for Kids and Needy Families program.

“Wal-Mart sells them to us at a discounted cost. We’re serving 225 children and 100 adults in Butler County,” said Davis. “It definitely makes me feel like Santa. Rotary is about service above self, and toys are great, but these coats are nurturing.”

Applicants supplied their information to the Department of Human Resources in Greenville and they were referred to the Rotary Club.

Rotary Club members spent Tuesday morning and the afternoon at Wal-Mart helping distribute the coats. Buford Scott, Zone Merchandise Supervisor for the store, helped.

“Everyone that’s come in for a coat has been real appreciative and thankful,” said Scott.

By midday, Rotary Club members had paid for over $1400 in coats. Wal-Mart donated 20 coats to the cause, said Scott.

“We want people to know, though, that this is the Rotary Club of Greenville that’s doing the work on this,” he said.
