Three Arts celebrates season

The twinkle of frosty white lights guided nearly 30 guests into Becky Manning’s Chapman home Thursday night as members of the Three Arts Club of Georgiana and Chapman came together to celebrate the season and honor its scholarship recipients.

Manning pulled out all the stops in decorating her home for the holidays. Traditional red and green with accents of gold were represented everywhere from the Christmas china adorning the numerous tables to the evergreen swags trimmed in scarlet ribbon decorating the doorways.

Manning’s collections of nutcrackers, angel figurines, and Santas of all types added color, beauty and holiday whimsy to the house. Miniature villages glowed in the den while the living room’s huge Christmas tree – courtesy of the Rotary Club of Greenville – sparkled with vintage ornaments, many of them handmade, collected over four decades by Manning.

“This little mouse in the nut shell was made by Wilodean Brown 41 years ago. It means a lot to me,” she said as she pointed out the miniature ornament hanging on the front of the tree.

In addition to enjoying all the festive decorations in the home, guests enjoyed a sit-down supper served by Manning and her “elves.” Following the meal, everyone congregated in the living room to listen to Christmas carols, capping off the evening with a gift exchange. Jordan Peavy and Rebecca Bradford, the latest recipients of Three Arts Club scholarships, joined past winners Susannah Gaston, Tyler Manning and Rebecca Butts for the special occasion.

“We have such a good group of ladies and we have a lot of fun together. Our organization is able to give back to the community through scholarships, the Rose Memorial Library and assisting those in need with our canned food collection at each Christmas party,” Manning said. “I’m delighted to be able to welcome everyone to my home each December.”
