The Greenville boys started Saturday’s game against Calhoun on fire, and the Tigers didn’t let up, winning 94-65.

GHS jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead, which quickly turned into a 16-3 lead.

At one point in the second quarter, the Tigers led 44-15, but Calhoun closed the gap to 52-27 at halftime.

Besides the offensive explosion, the Tigers also had a number of highlight-reel slam dunks from Nick McHenry and Mikwese Clayborne.

However, the exclamation point for the game came on a fast break where McHenry bounced the ball off the backboard for Zedarious Smith, who took the alley-oop and slammed it down with both hands.

The Tigers relaxed a bit in the second half, but Calhoun never posed a threat.

“Overall, I’m satisfied with the way we played,” said coach Bryant Marlow. “We’ve still got to work on a lot of fundamental things, though. We had some missed free throws and some silly fouls, and we’ve also got to get more comfortable on offense.”

All of Greenville’s starters made it into double digits – Clayborne had 11, McHenry added 14 points, Brentley Hill scored 17, Tyrell West scored 14 and Smith had 16 points.

The Tigers also got 13 points off the bench from Jamie Williams.

Greenville is set to travel to Charles Henderson on Tuesday night.
