Two senior adult groups from Greenville were among dozens of other groups attending the Senior Adult Retreat at Shocco Springs Baptist Conference Center in late October.

Eight members of the Damascus Baptist Church group and 10 members from Southside Baptist Church participated in the three-day conference.

The retreat is sponsored by the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions and is one of three held at the Talladega facility each year, drawing 900 seniors from more than 75 Alabama churches.

Betty Barr, group leader for Damascus, said the group learned much from all the activities and sessions, benefiting most from the experience that “we need to get closer to God and that God is always in control.”

Eloise Shirley, group leader for Southside, reported that the conference offered much in the way of “spiritual enlightenment, wonderful fellowship” and “excellent session leaders.”
