Nettie Thompson

Mrs. Nettie H. Atkins Thompson, 95, a resident of Monterey community of Forest Home, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2009. 
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, November 13, 2009 in Monterey Cemetery with Rev. Tom Bingham officiating.  Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing.  Eulogy was given by daughter, Mary B. Gendron.
Mrs. Thompson taught school in Butler County for 36 years.  She began her teaching career in Forest Home and taught there until the school closed in 1964.  She continued teaching in Greenville as a first grade teacher until Baptist Hill Kindergarten was founded, where she was assistant principal.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Clyde Atkins of Forest Home and Joe K. Thompson of Birmingham.  Survivors include:  daughter, Mary B. Gendron of Forest Home; grandchildren, Cheryl (Dale) Gates of Forest Home, Rebecca Nichols of Cleveland, OH;  great-grandchildren, Tristan and Kilian Nichols, and Christopher, Vivian, Eloise and Adaline Gates; several nieces and nephews.
 
Memorials may be made to Forest Home Baptist Church or to the Monterey Cemetery Fund.
