The Greenville Ministerial Association is gearing up for its annual Community Thanksgiving Service, to be held at 6:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church.

“This service has been held for many years and I cannot remember missing one,” said Tommy Ryan, city councilmember and supporter. “First, worship leaders from many area churches are invited to participate, regardless of race or denomination. Several pastors serve in different capacities, such as offering an opening prayer, reading Biblical scripture, delivering a Thanksgiving sermon, etc. One of the special aspects of this service involves a community choir, which assembles to bring song of praise.”

Ryan said a special offering is taken up from the congregation and the funds are given to the Greenville police to assist troubled and stranded travelers, as well as the homeless in the community.

“What better opportunity to offer a helping hand to those who are less fortunate,” he said.

The Tuesday night service precedes an annual event on Thanksgiving Day that Thursday: The annual “Feeding on the Hill” will take place at City School Hill Park on Garfield St. from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Food, fun and fellowship will be available for all.
