The Lady Cougars’ volleyball team ended their season Saturday, October 24th, at Faulkner University in a final four match up with Sumter Academy.

The Cougars fought Sumter, but came up short. Crenshaw won the first game 26 to 24 taking a 1 game to 0 lead. Sumter came back and won three straight games to win the match 3 games to 1. Sumter went on to play Enterprise Prepatory Academy for the Class A state title. Enterprise Prep won the match securing their second staight class A state championship.

“We played great at times, but not well enough to win the match,” Coach Michael Malpass said. “Sumter played harder than we did and wanted to win, and we failed to match that intensity.”

“We are proud of our girls for a good season, but disappointed it ended early.”

The Cougars finish the season with 25 wins and 7 losses. Sophomore hitter, Jasmine Wise was named to the state all tournament team.

“Jasmine is a great, young talent and she played really well at times, and we are glad she is a Cougar,” Malpass said.

The Cougars had three seniors chosen for the 2009 East All Star Team. Senior middle Kayla Beasley was selected to the team. Senior middle and outside hitter Carmen Tate was also named to the All Star Team. The final senior to make the team is middle back and outside hitter, Candice Dunn.

“We are proud of these ladies for this honor, and our message to them all year is to always work as hard as possible on and off the court,” Malpass added.

The 2009 All Star Game will be held at Kingwood Christian Academy in Birmingham on November 7th. The All Star Game will be played at 2 p.m.
