Trick-or-Treat, fall festivals planned around county

As October 31 approaches, a number of carnivals, harvest festivals and traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating times have been slated in Butler County.

Antioch East Baptist Church kicks things off with a Children’s Fall Festival on Wednesday, October 28 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will feature a costume contest (no scary costumes, please), a hot dog supper, pie eating contest and cake walk.

Greenville Parks and Recreation will sponsor a Halloween Carnival from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 29 at the Dunbar Center. A costume contest will begin promptly at 6 p.m.; late arrivals may not enter the contest. The event is for toddlers through 2nd grade. Games, treats and fun for all are promised. The event is free.

The official trick-or-treat time in the City of Greenville is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, October 31.

In south Butler County, both Georgiana and McKenzie will hold their celebrations on Friday, October 30 (the Georgiana-McKenzie football game is Thursday night and youth league games are scheduled for Saturday).

McKenzie will officially observe trick-or-treat time between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday and the age limit is 12 and under.

Georgiana will hold its first-ever Community Harvest Festival from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday night downtown. Businesses, organizations, churches and others will be on hand to pass out candy to the children. Everyone is invited to attend; free treats for youngsters 12 and under. There will be no trick-or-treating allowed within the city limits this year.

For those brave enough to take on the thrills and chills, the Haunted Firehouse on Highway 10 West will be open from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. October 29, 30, and 31. Admission is $5 with the proceeds going to the Greenville Firefighters Association.
