Friday a high school service club were thinking pink as they raised funds and awareness of a top health threat – breast cancer.

The Tiara Club of Greenville High School held their Second Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, joined by 400 of their classmates as they took a walk around the GHS campus. The event raised $400 for the American Cancer Society.

Prior to the walk, several local breast cancer survivors shared their names, their years as survivors and each released a balloon emblazoned with a pink ribbon – the symbol of breast cancer awareness.

The rest of the balloons were released to soar into the stratosphere as a symbol of hope a cure for the dread disease will soon be found.

Tiara Club sponsor Shawnda Bell said the “overwhelming response” to last year’s premiere event led them to hold it again in 2010.

“This is one community service project they all really enjoyed,” Bell said. “Everything that we can do to help with this cause we want to do,” said Whitney Guy, president of the Tiara Club.
