A lot has been going on in the little town of Dozier during the month of October as Miller’s House of Horrors, located at the old Dozier School, has drawn crowds from all over the area, including groups from Georgia and Florida.

The haunted schoolhouse will certainly be open for those who dare to enter Oct. 29-31, and to add a little extra excitement to “the big day”—Oct. 31—the town will host the Dozier FrightFest for children and families.

“We’re going to begin at 8 that morning with all kinds of arts and crafts booths, a bake sale, and plenty of games for the kids,” Dozier Councilmember Ann Holland said. “There will also be a silent auction inside the cafeteria later in the day.”

Inside and outside spaces are available for those who wish to set up yard sale booths as well; the cost is $15 per space.

Holland said that those who wish to set up a yard sale booth should contact Town Clerk Diane Wicks by Oct. 28 to sign up and pay, or they can pay the day of the FrightFest.

“There will be plenty of hot dogs, soft drinks, and snacks, including plenty of hot chocolate and coffee for patrons and vendors alike,” Holland said.

The family event will also include $1 raffle tickets for a $200 gift card at Wal-Mart. The winner does not have to be present to win.

Also, the American Red Cross will hold a Dozier Community “Vein Drain” Blood Drive that same day from 2-7 p.m. at the school. All those who give blood will be automatically entered into a drawing to win a pair of roundtrip Delta Airlines tickets as well.

“We want everyone to come out, bring their children, and have a wonderful and safe Halloween with us,” she said.
