The Brantley Bulldogs have chalked up another region championship after

their 31-21 pounding over Geneva County Friday night.

The Bulldogs were the first ones to put points on the board as Teven Daniels

caught a 25-yard pass from quarterback Chase Hall during the first quarter.

Adam Hill missed the PAT, but Brantley was up 6-0.

Geneva County added their first TD of the night during the second quarter on

a 45-yard pass play, and with the PAT, the Bulldogs went into the halftime trailing by 7-6.

But that lead didn’t last long as the Bulldogs’ Derrick Holley scored on a one-yard run during the opening drive of the third quarter.

Hall threw an incomplete pass during an attempt for a two-point conversion, but Brantley held the lead 12-7.

The points began to rack up for both teams during the fourth quarter as Devonte Porter first scored on a four-yard run; again, the two-point conversion was missed, but the Bulldogs pulled ahead 18-7.

Geneva County turned right around and scored on a long pass play; they made the two-point conversion and closed the lead to 18-15.

But Porter wasn’t finished for the night as he scored again this time on a three-yard run.

Chester Person added another six points for Brantley on a 70-yard

interception return.

Zeth Johnson’s PAT was true, leaving Geneva County trailing 31-15, and rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs.

Geneva County added their last six points in the final seconds of the game, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs added another region win under their belt and claimed the Class 1A Region 2 championship title.

The Bulldogs were led on defense by Tory Upshaw with 13 tackles, while Jared Hall had 8 tackles and one sack, and Tevin Daniels had 7 tackles. Both Clint Kilcrease and Reed Kilcrease had six tackles each.

Quarterback Chase Hall was 9 for 13 for 126 yards passing and one TD and one interception.

On offense, Devonte Porter was the leading rusher with 88 yards on 13 carries and two TDs, while the leading receiver was Tory Upshaw with 3 catches for 57 yards.

“I feel good about traveling to Kinston this week,” BHS head coach David Lowery said. “We’re playing really good right now, and we’ll continue to play better going into the playoffs.”

The Bulldogs will host the first round of playoff action on Nov. 6.
