The Luverne Tigers lost their first game of the season on Oct. 9 as they fell to T. R. Miller 29 to 24.

Miller, the No. 1-ranked 3A team in the state, jumped out to an early six point lead as they missed their first extra point, but the Tigers, behind the passing of Monterrio May and the running of Lance Brooks, soon tied the game at six all, when the Tigers also missed their first, and every, extra point of the night.

Miller added a 31-yard field goal to give the home team a 9 to 6 first quarter lead.

Miller scored two second quarter touchdowns to take a 23 to 6 lead, but the Tigers struck back quickly as May hit Adam Foster with a 51 yard strike to cut the Miller lead to 23 to 12 as the first half ended.

Again the PAT was missed.

Luverne scored a third quarter td on a 57-yard run by Lance Brooks but the PAT was missed, and Luverne had cut the lead to 23 to 18.

The Tigers scored with 10 minutes left in the game to take a 24 to 23 lead, but Miller would not be denied as they marched down and took the lead for good on a pass play, and that’s how it ended – 29 to 24 Miller.

Again this year, the Tigers out gained Miller 367 total yards to 341 total yards.

Luverne had 239 on the ground and 128 through the airways.

Miller had 203 on the ground and 138 through the air.

The Tigers had 16 first downs and Miller piled up 12. On defense, the Tigers were led by Lenny Brooks with 5 tackles and Ryan Waters and Evan Richardson had 4 each.
