The Flying Squadron of Highland Home had more than just Homecoming to celebrate last Friday night as they broke a 16-game losing streak with a big 22-6 win over the Rams of Francis Marion.

Highland Home won for the first time since the end of the 2007 Cinderella season. Friday night marked the first win of the Scott Booth era at Highland Home School.

“At halftime, the score was 6-6,” HHS head coach Scott Booth said. “We came out and recovered a fumble early in the third quarter and took it in for a touchdown, and we never looked back.”

All three Squadron scores were made by Jonathan Moultry Friday night.

Big plays for the night were made by senior running back Jonathan Moultry and junior Antawine Harris. Jonathan Moultry ran for 124 rushing yards on 21 attempts and 3 touchdowns. Antawine Harris ran for 75 yards on 14 attempts, not including a 47 yard touchdown run that was called back due to holding. Freshman quarterback John Dunn was 4 of 6 for 26 yards in the air.

Antawine Harris led the wide receiver ranks with 2 catches for 16 yards. Senior D’Andrea Cole and sophomore Dustin Nolan carried the ball for 24 yards each.

The Squadron broke a season record with 271 yards of total offense while holding the Rams of Francis Marion to only 128 total offensive yards. Jonathan Moultry had an interception return for about 5 yards. Junior Caleb Parsons came up with not 1 but 2 fumble recoveries for the Flyboys. Sophomore Christopher McCullough also recorded a quarterback sack. The Flyboys were hit with 5 penalties for 40 yards, while the Rams were on the receiving end of 7 penalties for 40 yards.

Alex Gibson led the Highland Home defense with 8 tackles, and Chris McGhee and Jonathan Moultry landed six tackles each.

“I was proud of our guys—they came out in the second half and wanted to win the game, and they played the entire game and did just that-even those that were hurting and banged up—they really wanted to win.”

“Plus, it was homecoming, and that made it that much better,” Booth added.

“It was a very intense game. The team as a whole did a great job,” Booth said.

Highland Home will face the Pirates of St. Jude in region play Friday night, Oct. 9, at Clay Jordan Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.

“If we play like we did last Friday night, we’ve got the chance to win more football games,” Booth said.
