Cougars ‘take care of business’

As the Cougars of Crenshaw Christian roared out of the locker room, Coach Roland Jones had only one message to give to his young blue clad troops: “Take care of business”.

And for the fourth consecutive week, the Cougars had no problem in receiving that message as they jumped all over the Jackson Academy Eagles 40 – 2 this past Friday at home.

Leading only 7 to 0 after one stanza, that being a 14-yard scoring toss from quarterback Pete King to Cameron Johnson, the high powered Cougar grounded-game got on track in the second quarter.

With 9:20 showing on the scoreboard clock, King bulled his way into the Eagle end zone to put CCA up 14 to 0.

Three minutes later they tallied their third touchdown of the game when Darren Foster raced 14 yards for a score at the 6:20 mark in the second quarter.

Up 21 to 0, Nick Kilpatrick closed out the first half scoring for CCA as he rambled 12 yards for his only touchdown of the night as the Cougars went into their dressing room leading 27 to 0.

As the second half got underway, the Eagles made a little noise as they took the kickoff and drove deep into Cougar territory. But the always tuff Cougar “D” put a quick halt to the Eagles’ scoring threat and turned the ball over to the Cougars.

Jackson Finial got on the scoreboard with 7:03 left in the third quarter when a bad center snap sailed over punter Austin Brown’s head and out of the end zone to give the Eagles their only score of the game. As the Cougar offense went back onto the field leading 27-2, junior running back Kyle Furr made his presence felt as he rushed two times for 73 yards with the last carry being a 7 yard TD scamper into the Eagle end zone as the scoreboard read CCA 33- Jackson 2.

Cougar running back Justin Thrash closed out all scoring in the game as he ran 47 yards with 1:40 left in the third quarter to give CCA a 40-2 victory, their fourth in five games.

Top performers for the Cougars on defense were Marino Bolling, who had 12 tackles, and his counterpart, Cody Moses, with 9 solos. Shaun Lewis and Justin Thrash had one pick each.

On offense, Kyle Furr led all rushers with 74 yards on 4 carries and one TD, and placekicker Austin Brown connected on 4 out of 6 PATs.

This week, CCA will travel to Camp Hill to face Lyman Ward, who lost 22-14 this past week to Abbeville Christian. Game time is 7 p.m.
