Come closer, my little one. Closer…and let me tell you a story. One that I think you will find very interesting. You see that old, run-down schoolhouse over there? That’s it. The one with all the vines running up the sides? Yes, my pretty, yes—look closely at it. What do you see? More importantly, what have you heard?

That’s right. The school closed in 1992—it was built in 1938. No, you weren’t born then, were you, you silly little thing?

What’s that you say? The janitor? Ah, yes, the janitor—you mean the one that disappeared? Yes, that’s right. He disappeared. And it’s my understanding he’s not alone. You see, my little pretty, rumor has it the janitor at the old Dozier High School was never found. That’s right—he’s still missing, even to this day….and so are two students. A cute couple. They just went back inside to get her purse before they left on the last day of school….but they never came back out….

The town of Dozier is the place to be during the month of October as Miller’s House of Horrors comes to life in the old Dozier High School.

With 16 classrooms and an entire auditorium that has mysteriously turned into a graveyard, Miller’s House of Horrors will add new meaning to the phrase, “That teacher is killing me.”

Clint Miller of Miller’s House of Horrors has been doing haunted houses for the last nine years, including houses in Elba and Troy. For Miller, coming to Dozier has been a “family affair” in a sense.

“We feel like the town of Dozier has become part of our family,” Miller said. “I have other members of my immediate family who are part of the haunted house, and we have been working with several residents of Dozier to put everything together. We are definitely excited about what we have in store for everyone.”

In fact, Miller’s seven-year-old daughter, Destiny, will play the character of the little girl from the hit screamer “Nightmare on Elm Street: Dream Warriors”, as she rides her little red tricycle in the “Freddy Kruger” room.

“She has been around haunted houses her entire life,” Miller said, laughing.

Miller’s House of Horrors opens Oct. 2 and 3, running each night from 7 p.m. until. The haunted schoolhouse will also be open Oct. 9-12, Oct. 15-18, Oct. 22-25, Oct. 29-31, and Nov. 1. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12, and under age 5 is free, but they must be accompanied by an adult. Also, there is plenty of free parking in the field directly across from the school.

“We’ll also have food and drinks outside while you wait, and activities for the smaller children outside as well,” Miller said.

A portion of the proceeds will go toward the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Miller said.

This quiet little town has a terrible secret. A terrible secret about a missing janitor and two missing students. Well, my little one, is that a shadow I see inside the old Dozier School building? Why don’t we go take a look—together….
