After a season open road loss to the AISA number two ranked Edgewood Academy Wildcats, 34-14, head coach Roland Jones and his young Cougars have rolled to three straight victories to go 3 and 1 overall in the 2009 season. In doing so they have posted a 34-0 record in Region One Class A play.

Their current victim this past Friday night just happened to be their visitors from Houston County, the High Flying Falcons of Ashford Academy. The Cougars once again used a strong rushing offense and strong and stingy defense in shooting down the harmless birds 48 to 0 at the CCA campus.

The Cougars’ high-powered ground game was led by a pair of seniors, Nick Kilpatrick who had one touchdown and 204 yards on 11 capers, and Tyler McGough, who added two touchdowns on 16 totes and 75 yards.

Junior QB Pete King got into the CCA scoring column as he rushed for one touchdown and passed to his junior counterpart Kyle Furr for another one.

Two underclassmen Justin Thrash and Darren Foster closed out the Cougar scoring for the night as they both added a touchdown each late in the contest.

Place kicker Austin Brown had a better night in PAT attempts as he connected on six out of seven kicks after going just 1 of 5 last week versus Chambers Academy.

A strong defensive eleven was led by the linebacker core as Kyle Furr led the team in tackles with 8 from his outside spot.

Turnovers played a big part in the Falcons’ demise as they had high hopes of revenging last year’s 34 to 9 loss at the hands of the Cougars.

But that was not to be the case as Darren Foster picked off an Ashford Academy pass and Cameron Johnson and Eben King, both returned a fumble each to set up the Cats’ offensive units with golden opportunities to put points on the scoreboard.

Ashford Academy now stands at one and three overall and one and one in region play.

Coach Jones and his Cougars will stay in the friendly confines of Cougar Field as they host always tough Jackson Academy, who lost Friday night 20 to 14 to South Choctaw Academy.

Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
