Contests slated for Farm-City Week

The Butler County Farmers Federation Women’s Committee announces the 2009 Farm-City Poster Contest and the 2009 Farm-City Essay Contest. This year’s theme: “Farmers Care – For Animals and You.” The poster contest is open to all students in Kindergarten through sixth grade. There are two categories of competition: K-3rd grades and 4th – 6th grades. The essay contest is open to all students in the 7th – 12th grades. There are two divisions in the essay contest: 7th -9th grades and 10th-12th grades.

First and Second Place winners will be named in all categories.

“Not only will the 1st and 2nd place winners receive monetary awards, but the winner’s classroom will also receive a monetary award,” says Charlene Powell of the BCFFWC.

“We encourage all students to enter.” The 1st and 2nd place poster contest winners will win $50 and $25 respectively; 1st and 2nd place essay winners will win $100 and $50.

All the entries will be judges first on the county level by the Farm-City Committee, with the first place winner in each category being submitted to the state contest. County winners will be notified by November 20. All entries will be on display in the Butler County Courthouse during the month of November. Therefore, the deadline for all entries is Friday, October 23, 2009. Information on eligibility and rules can be picked up at the ALFA Office at 480 Greenville By-Pass or at county schools’ offices.
