The Luverne Tigers kept their record clean at home last Friday night as they defeated South Choctaw 46 to 6.

The Tigers’ first score came on a 57 yard pass and run play from QB Monterio May to wideout Evan Richardson, who made a great catch and run for the TD. The PAT was kicked by Ryan Waters, and the first quarter ended 7-0 for Luverne.

The next Tiger TD came on a 44 yard run in the second quarter by Ryan McGhee, who picked up a Choctaw fumble and raced untouched for the score. Waters again added the extra point for a 14-point Luverne lead.

The Tigers found paydirt again within the second quarter when QB May ran for a touchdown on an eight yard run. Again, Waters split the uprights for a 21-point Tiger lead.

Choctaw County got on the board late in the second quarter on a reverse play with 59 seconds left in the second quarter when Lefaris Williams scampered 29 yards on a reverse play with 59 seconds left in the first half. The PAT was missed, but the Choctaw Tigers had cut into the Luverne lead.

But the home-standing Tigers were not finished with the first half either. The Tigers took over at their 35 yard line and wasted no time moving down the field for their next TD. It came with eight seconds left in the half as QB May hit Adam Foster with a 15 yard strike for the final Luverne TD of the first half. The kick was missed, but the Tigers held a 27 to 6 lead at halftime.

The LHS Tigers scored once in the third quarter when Monterio May passed five yards to Evan Richardson for his second TD of the night. The PAT failed, but the Tigers had stretched their lead to 33-6.

Luverne scored two fourth quarter touchdowns as May ran 33 yards for one with 8:29 left in the game. Cody Chrzastek kicked the PAT and the Red Cats led 40 to 6. The final TD came on a 38 yard run by Ladorian Jackson with 6 minutes left in the game. The PAT was missed, but the Tigers had their margin of victory at 46 to 6.

The Red Cats were led on offense by Monterio May who had 58 yards of rushing and 131 yards passing. Seth Wood helped out with 16 yards in the middle of the line. Jackson had 44 yards on the ground and Lance Brooks led all rushing with 81 yards. Evan Richardson had two catches for 62 yards and two touchdowns. Foster had two catches for 25 yards and one TD.

The Tigers were led on defense by Lenny Brooks with 7 stops, while Cody Chrzastek and Lonnie Freeman had six tackles each.

Freeman and Brooks also had tackles for losses.

The Luverne Tigers will travel to Calhoun High School in region play Friday night. Game time is 7 p.m.
