With the huge rematch against Pike Liberal Arts behind them, the FDA Eagles must now set their sights on Hooper Academy.

After any big win, there’s always the concern that there will be a let-down the following week, but head coach Speed Sampley said he doesn’t think that’ll affect the Eagles.

“We’ve got a lot of seniors, and we know that this is a big game too,” he said. “We won a really big game, but we don’t think we played near our potential.”

Among the areas Sampley said the Eagles need to improve on are tackling on defense and sustaining blocks on offense.

The defense will get a test this Friday night from Morgan Faulkner, who Sampley says is one of the best backs in the state.

“We’ve been told that Hooper’s quarterback has a hurt hand, and that would move Faulkner to quarterback and that makes sure that he touches the ball all the time,” Sampley said.

Both the offensive and defensive lines took a hit with the loss of Nate Reaves.

Reaves, who plays tackle and defensive end, tore his MCL last week against Pike.

Heading into Friday night’s game, the Colts are 2-2, topping Glenwood and Kingswood, but falling to Lowndes and Pike.

“This is a region game, so it’s a big one for us,” Sampley said.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Fort Dale.
